Let's get our creativity on!

Let’s get our creativity on!

As a child I would spend hours on creative endeavors. Drawing, clay sculpting, soft sculpture, knitting, crocheting, macrame, sewing, song writing, playing guitar and piano, building model airplanes, boats and cars.

Then something happened as I moved into my late teens and definitely once I was into my twenties. My Inner Critic started to fill me with doubts and fears. “Who are you to think you are creative?” “You can’t sing.” “You can’t draw.” “That drawing isn’t very realistic.” “You are so going to look foolish if you put that out into the world.” I started to abandon my Creative Self, and by my forties that part of me was all but gone.

The year I turned fifty, my father died. Going through the estate I discovered literally hundreds of his amazing drawings and paintings in boxes and drawers. While he shared some of his artwork with family and friends throughout the years, most of his pieces had never seen the light of day.

I vowed right then and there I would not go to my grave with my creativity gathering dust. I set up a studio in my home, loaded up on papers, pens, paints and brushes and explored every art technique I could find a YouTube video on.

Since that time, I have taken a number of art courses, and I am uncovering my style. I have also put my art out there for the world to enjoy, should anyone be called to purchase my pieces.

Most importantly, that Inner Critic has been kicked to the curb. BAM! Gone. My Creative Self is having the time of her life. Oh ya, baby!

In this blog, I share my thoughts on art and on creativity in general. My desire is to inspire you to kick your own Inner Critic to the curb and bust out your Creative Self.

Gracefully yours,

~ Eliza
